Administrator’s Guide – How to connect Schoology LTI 1.3 (Manual Registration)
This guide walks Schoology administrators through enabling the PlagiarismCheck.org LTI 1.3 integration using manual registration. Once enabled, instructors can attach PlagiarismCheck to any assignment, students submit their work directly inside Schoology, and originality reports plus grades flow back automatically.
Before you start
You’ll need:
- Administrator access to your Schoology instance.
- An active PlagiarismCheck.org organisation account with Admin (Owner) role. If you don’t have Admin access, but you need it, please contact us here.
- The registration page on plagiarismcheck.org open in another tab — you’ll use it to generate the registration URL and to receive the platform details Schoology gives you back.
Note: Schoology currently requires manual LTI 1.3 registration. You’ll create a Developer App in Schoology, paste PlagiarismCheck’s endpoints into it, and then send Schoology’s generated IDs back to PlagiarismCheck.
Step 1: Navigate to Integrations
- Login to PlagiarismCheck and follow Profile → Integrations or just click on this link https://plagiarismcheck.org/profile/integrations-list. On the list of integrations scroll until you see Schoology.

Step 2: Access your registration URLs
- On the PlagiarismCheck registration page, select Manual tab, scroll to JWKS URL, Domain URL, OIDC Login Init URL, Redirect URLs and then Copy.

Step 3: Open Developer Apps
- Sign in to Schoology as an administrator. Open the App Center from the top navigation, then switch to the Developer Apps tab. Click Add App.

Step 4: App metadata
- Fill in the basics:
- App Name — PlagiarismCheck LTI 1.3.
- Description — a short summary, e.g. PlagiarismCheck.org LTI 1.3 — originality, AI detection, and writing feedback.
- Category — pick the categories that fit your school.
- Recommended For — tick Instructors, Students and Admins.

Step 5: Type, placements, services and URLs
- Scroll down to Type of App and choose LTI 1.3 App, ticking Launch app in Schoology. Under Can be installed for choose where instructors should be able to add the tool — at minimum, Course External Tool.
- Set Configuration Type to Manual, choose the right Privacy option, and tick the LTI Advantage extensions: Deep Linking, Assignment and Grade Services and Names and Roles Services.
- Then copy the values from the PlagiarismCheck registration page (Step 2 of this guide) into JWKS URL, Domain/URL, OIDC Login Init URL and Redirect URLs.

Step 6: Save and copy Client ID
- Click Submit App for Approval, after this Schoology generates Client ID. Navigate to Options → API info, copy generated Client ID and back into the PlagiarismCheck registration page.

- Paste this into the matching field on the PlagiarismCheck registration page.

Step 7: Install the app for your organisation
- From the same app page click Install LTI 1.3 App. Choose your organisation and accept the permissions.

Step 8: Copy the Deployment ID
- Click on Configure button for created app, copy Deployment ID and back into the form on the PlagiarismCheck registration page and paste it into the matching field. Then click on Register deployment.

Step 9: Enable the App for your organization
- Go to App Center → Organization Apps, click on Install/Remove button , choose the required option (All Users, All Courses, All Groups) and submit.

After registration, switch to a test course and create an assignment that uses PlagiarismCheck as its external tool. Submit a short sample document as a student, return as the instructor, and confirm that the originality report opens and the grade syncs back to the gradebook.
Troubleshooting
Tool stays Pending and never activates
Reopen the registration page in another tab and check that the URL you pasted into Schoology hasn’t expired. Registration URLs are single-use; generate a new one and repeat the registration step.
Originality reports don’t appear in the gradebook
Confirm that Assignment and Grade Services and Names and Roles Provisioning are enabled on the tool. In Schoology, verify the assignment was created with PlagiarismCheck as the submission type.
Students see an error when launching the tool
Ask the student to clear cookies for your LMS domain and retry. If the error persists, copy the error code from the launch screen and contact support@plagiarismcheck.org.
